Ready for Spring

Doing so much brown during the winter should be illegal. I think I am moving into SPRING whether Mother Nature likes it or not. Everyday I drive by this eccentrically painted house. In a neighborhood where we have classic tudor style houses, a little touch of morrocan inspired color is refreshing. I guess its an optimistic outlook at a house that probably annoys the neighbors. So here are a couple other inspiration images.

Winter Brown QuickPage

Some how or another my son lost his ruler and we had to make an emergency quick pit stop at the local quick shop. Of course on our way to the school supplies, we had to take a detour through the valentines candy. 50% off, is a good enough reason for me to pick up a little chocolate for a friend. When we got home, I got a little chance to put together a quick page, for my best friend.

Enjoy the Download Here.

I have some cheap good chocolate, so I know I will.

Guilt Free Pumpkin Bread

Okay, I admit it. I love it when I bake. I love the fact that it is usually gone before 9 am, when I bring it in to the office. I love the little messages of how I am a goddess. I hate the winter and being cooped up is really not me. Last night I had to cancel my training session with my Boxing coach because of the weather. The beautiful early afternoon snow turned ugly when it froze over by 5pm. Of course, our street crews didn't know what to do with it. I saw three accidents and had to do a curb check to stop at one intersection. So as a public service I went home and baked.

Here is what I was working on.

The Recipe:
Ribbon Pumpkin Bread
1 C Pumpkin
1/2 C unsweetened Applesauce
1 Egg
2 Egg Whites
1 T Oil
1 2/3 C Flour
1 1/4 C Sugar
1/2 TSP Baking Soda
1/2 TSP Salt
1/2 TSP Cinnamon
1/2 TSP  Cloves
1/3 C Walnuts (optional)

Filling:
6 oz reduced fat cream cheese
1/4 C Sugar
1 T flour
2 egg whites

1. Make Filling set aside
2. In a mixing bowl combine pumpkin, applesauce, eggs, and oil. Add the flour, sugar and spices in half increments. Stir in nuts.
3. Pour half the batter into a greased pan and layer the cream cheese and back to the rest of the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.Cool for 10 minutes.

The hardest thing about working with colored bread is just realizing it is colored. The first one I did was not done, and turned out more like lava cake. I always feel like I am burning the bread to get it done. It is an exercise in trust.

Winter Brown

When I began working on my first entry for the competition (Previous Post), I vowed to continue to create whether I advanced or not. So I started working on the papers for the second week of color swatches. Working with Brown is tough but I also made me think about some other technics I want to try. Like leather.

These are some of the papers I have come up with.

Next on to the elements...

Valentines Competition Entry Week 1

Hearts and flowers and frilly things are not my thing, but I put all that aside to enter my first digital scrapbook competition. I had a blast. I realize having only boys to scrap pics for, is really limiting. I need to find a little girlie to scrap for. Maybe my little sis will help me out with that. She's due in March.

Here is the preview to the mini kit.

WORLD CUP SOCCER

Go KC SOCCER!!!!

Last week they announced that our home of KC would be part of USA’s bid for the World Cup. I just cannot imagine how awesome that will be.

My son Tyler is an avid soccer maniac. In the fall he played for not one, not two, but three different Soccer teams. It was nuts as a Mom, but also amazing to watch. He just started playing Premier League Soccer and made an amazing team.

During the first week of play, while guest playing for a division 1 team did a Mara Donna in middle of 4 opponents. I think his buddy’s dad dropped his coffee. I was looking through the camera at the time, but my jaw just dropped in amazement. I missed the shot; there is just not a manual on how to take pictures when you son does something like that.

I have been trying to digitally scrapbook these memories for a while. I have found very few kits that I really adore for this rugged, technical sport. So when in doubt make it yourself. So here goes my first kit.
